Non-Verbal Performances in Seoul

Non-Verbal Performances in Seoul
Non-Verbal Performances Guaranteed to Delight You
Koreans are enamored with live entertainment, musicals in particular. On any given day you may find literally hundreds of concerts and musicals ranging from folk to post-postmodern in Seoul. Yet for international visitors there is a little problem - the Korean language is reputed to be one of the most difficult languages to learn for Westerners and enjoying theater or musicals seems to be a pleasure denied to them.

Visitors will especially appreciate the energetic and addictive rhythm and pace characteristic of Korean spectacles that make Korean pop music so popular worldwide. The beat of Korea, still very much in tune with the ancient past, yet so fast and modern, is guaranteed to exhilarate and enthrall audiences. You must give at least one a try when you're in Seoul.

Nanta
Based on the rhythm of the samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet), Nanta is a comic non-verbal play set in the kitchen.

Nanta has been a sell-out success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the UK and was also the first long-running Korean show on Broadway in New York City. The shows have been so successful that they now run at three exclusive theaters in Seoul which are equipped with special lighting and sound systems to create maximum audience impact. Around 380,000 international tourists visit Nanta Theaters every year.

Jump
In “Jump” a pair of hapless burglars gets more than they bargained for when they break into the home of a Korean family, not realizing the family are martial arts experts. The non-verbal nature of the show along with great music, likeable characters and laugh-out-loud comedy allows “Jump” to transcend language barriers.

The enduring popularity of “Jump” led to the opening of Jump Theater as its permanent home in 2006, with 3,000 performances under its belt by 2008. Currently, there are Jump Theaters in Korea in Seoul and Busan as well as in the US on Broadway in New York City.
