About
SK T.um is a venue for a mobile experience, which combines cutting-edge IT technology and a mobile communications service. T.um comes from “sprout” in Korean, and is a compound word formed from “T” for SK Telecom and the word “Museum”. At SK T.um, visitors can experience firsthand the past and present of Korea’s mobile communications industry as well as the future of the industry, which is constantly evolving. The venue comprises a total of three themed zones; Play Dream zone looks towards the future, Play Now zone represents the present and Play Basic looks back at the past. Visitors please note that advance bookings should be made online ahead of a visit.
The future of the telecommunications industry
On a visit to SK T.um, the venue tour starts by picking up a UMD (Ultra Mobile Device, a customized mobile device) called a T.key from the information desk. T.key is a futuristic cellphone that connects visitors with all of T.um’s services, and can track visitors’ location, thus enabling a customized experience.
Play Basic zone is the first stop on the tour, designed to offer a bird’s eye view of the history and technology of Korea’s mobile communications. The zone features the Network Revolution Map, which displays the generational evolvement of communications service through visual images, and the Call Flow, which shows the connecting routes of mobile communications.
At the Play Now zone, visitors can experience the different contents that SK Telecom provides at the moment, such as a touch-media table, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) and mobile games.
Play Dream zone is the highlight of T.um, showcasing services based on a futuristic ubiquitous environment made possible by mobile technology. The zone features three special items: T.driving, My TV Station and Real GXG (SK’s mobile gaming portal).
At T.driving, visitors are invited to get into futuristic cars and experience various new services, including a network system between cars, multimedia video communication, online banking and shopping, and wireless internet access. Similarly, the My TV Station, which offers a one-man broadcasting service, is also very popular with visitors, since they can make a personalized music video at the station.
The Real GXG is a must-see program especially for lovers of gaming. It offers an opportunity to experience futuristic games that combine reality and a virtual world into a single screen. It is easy and simple to play, and can be enjoyed regardless of age.
SK T.um houses the world’s first T.Starbucks fully integrated with mobile IT technology, and is an experimental site for combining IT technology with Starbucks’ coffee. Guests can choose an item, order and pay for it all through an U.table (ubiquitous table) using mobile technology.
